This study examined the impact of cognitive-behavioral group play therapy on improving cognitive empathy, emotional self-regulation, and social acceptance among students with low self-esteem. A quasi-experimental design was used, involving 30 students from Zanjan in 2025-2024, selected via convenience sampling and randomly divided into experimental and control groups. The experimental group participated in 10 sessions of 60-minute therapy, while the control group received no intervention. Pre- and post-intervention data were gathered using the Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (ERQ), Empathy Questionnaire for Children and Adolescents (EmQue CA), and Ford and Robin Social Acceptance Questionnaire. Analyses utilized multivariate (MANCOVA) and univariate (ANCOVA) covariance methods.
The results showed significant improvement in cognitive empathy (0.495, p<0.05), emotional self-regulation (0.45, p<0.05), and social acceptance (0.166, p<0.05). However, no significant effect was observed on emotional empathy (0.002, p<0.05). These findings suggest that cognitive-behavioral group play therapy effectively enhances specific psychological dimensions in students with low self-esteem. Its application is recommended for educational and therapeutic programs in schools and treatment centers.
