“Reflection for action, RFA” is a core element of reflective practice and a vital component of teachers' professional development, focusing on reflection about future teaching. Despite its importance, few studies, both internationally and nationally, have examined this area. This qualitative study aimed to explicate this construct using an Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) approach. The participants were 14 teachers, selected through purposive sampling, with variation in gender, teaching experience, and educational level. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed using IPA. The trustworthiness of the findings was strengthened through constant comparison of the data, transparency of the analytic process, member checking, and peer review. Data analysis identified six superordinate themes in the participants' RFA: goal setting and instructional direction, constructing the teaching pathway, anticipation based on past experience, judging the likelihood and consequences of instructional decisions, mental simulation of teaching situations, and proactive interventions. In addition, individual differences among the participating teachers were explained across the dimensions of scope of anticipation, depth of situational analysis, and level of proactive interventions. Furthermore, the conceptual representation of RFA revealed the formation of three reflective layers: cognitive orientation, experiential reconstruction, and uncertainty management. The findings indicate that RFA is a complex process of anticipating, regulating, and managing teaching that plays a significant role in teachers' professional thinking and development. Therefore, this essential element of reflective practice should receive serious attention in reflective teacher education programs and teachers' professional development programs.
