The aim of this study is to investigate the main challenges and obstacles that hinder research among student teachers. This research was conducted as a mixed-method descriptive study. In the quantitative part, inferential statistics were used, and in the qualitative part, the phenomenological method was applied. The research population consisted of student teachers from Farhangian University in Markazi Province (Zainab Kobra Campus and Bahonar Campus), totaling 1856 individuals. From this population, 334 individuals were selected through random sampling for the quantitative part of the study, and for the qualitative part, 20 individuals were selected using purposive sampling, with criteria including being top students in each intake and having ranks under 1000 in the national entrance exam (between the years 2021-2022). In the quantitative part, data were collected using a questionnaire on obstacles to research activities in universities (Karimian et al., 2011), which included 46 items on a Likert scale. Data were analyzed using regression models, factor analysis, and the Friedman test. The validity of this questionnaire was confirmed by educational science experts, and the Cronbach's alpha coefficient for the entire questionnaire was 0.91. In the qualitative part, semi-structured interviews were used to collect data, which were then analyzed using the Colaizzi method. The results obtained from the quantitative part of the study showed that the six dimensions of research obstacles are correlated and can be collectively referred to as research obstacles. Additionally, the results indicated that professional obstacles are the most significant barriers to conducting research.
